Fox News Alert: Canada Joins Axis of Evil

To be included in my book on right-wing rhetorical patterns:

"Canada is the only nation other than Cuba and North Korea that bans private health insurance, according to Sally Pipes, head of the Pacific Research Institute in San Francisco and author of a recent book on Canada's health-care system."

Cuba and North Korea? What is she getting at, anyway?

As far as I can tell, nowhere in the Canada Health Act does it say that private health insurance is "banned" -- and then there's the fact that over 95% of Canadian hospitals -- as well as many other sources of care in their 'socialist' medical system -- are operated as private entities. (See here for more on the Canadian healtcare system.) Memo to Pacific Research Institute: "private" does not mean "for-profit." Private and non-profit are not mutually exclusive!

Perhaps "Sally" is Daniel's new alias?

Why Democrats Lose Elections...

"I just more or less roll with the punches. I live on my faith, and God is going to take care of it one way or another."
--Jayne Atwell, quoted in "Downsizing at General Motors Comes at No Surprise To Workers," Jeremy Peters, NY Times, June 7, 2005.

No, it's not economic mismanagement by the Bush administration! No, there's nothing that can be done about it! God's will be done!
