Religulous

Reading Damon Linker's commentary on Bill Maher's "Religulous" reminds me how much more the skeptics have in common with the moderate believers than the moderate believers have in common with the theocrats. Why do the religious moderates not seem to get this, and ignoring the real threat, spend so much of their time -- any time at all -- attacking Hitchens, Dawkins, Harris et al.? Not that these men's views are all the same! I mean why does Linker refer to Maher as a "New Atheist" when Maher has repeatedly and explicitly disavowed atheism as exactly the same kind of false certainty that plagues organized religion? I understand that the theocrats don't think it's an important distinction, and Maher, Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris despite their many differences are basically just the same heathen going to burn in the same eternal hellfire. But a sensible pluralist like Linker should know better.
